Great leaders are most often God’s spokesmen.

About This Quote

Great leaders are most often God’s spokesmen. This quote comes from a church service held on May 12, 1942, in the Nelson Mandela Memorial Park in Qunu, South Africa. The service was attended by many of South Africa’s leading leaders and dignitaries, including the British colonial governor and the chief justice of the Transvaal high court. Mandela gave a moving and powerful speech that did not refer to himself or his own leadership style.

Instead, he used the phrase “God’s spokesmen” to describe great leaders. He then went on to encourage everyone present to be a “God’s spokesperson” for change in South Africa.
